Celebrating 10 Years with Camellia Art with New Work!
This month I was excited to ship five new pieces to Camellia Art Gallery in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Adrianne Lively is a legend in Hilton Head, having owned this gallery since 1986. She started it as a frame shop that also exhibited and sold folk art, and in 2009 she expanded the gallery to show contemporary artists. By 2019, she had added two new locations: one inside J. Banks retail showroom on Main Street and another in the up-and-coming arts district of downtown Bluffton. This year, I'm celebrating my 10th anniversary of representation by this prestigious gallery.
A distinct shift happens when a painting leaves the studio and begins its life on a gallery wall. While my studio is where the labor and inspiration happen, the gallery is where the work truly faces its test. Representation by a gallery like Camellia Art isn't just about having a place to hang my work; it's a professional vetting process and a partnership. When a gallery selects my work, they put their reputation behind my brushstrokes.
For the discerning collector, this partnership offers peace of mind. They aren't just buying a piece of decor; they are investing in an artist whose work the gallery has curated. It's a collaborative standard of excellence that ensures the art you bring into your home is of true gallery caliber. The galleries that represent my work are truly my partners in sharing the art with a larger audience. They speak for me when I am busy working, and they understand their collectors, so they can present the work they feel their clients would love most.
Preparing this shipment reminded me of a familiar dilemma: drive to our hometown of Hilton Head for a nice overnight stay, or carefully pack and ship the work. After careful consideration, I ultimately chose to ship the work, although it wasn't nearly as much fun.
I am particularly proud of these pieces. Through a series of studies, I played with composition and color, pushing the boundaries of reality. I have been experimenting with building forms from planes and using texture to infuse the subject with dynamic life. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed creating them. You can find them soon at Camellia Art!
