Plein Air September: the first installment

So, I made a commitment to myself to plein air paint at least once a week for the month of September. I have my first plein air event coming up in October and I am so excited about it, so I thought a great way to get ready for this would be to plein air as much as I could beforehand. Plein air painting used to be one of my favorite things to do. When my boys were little and we were visiting my mom in Hilton Head, I would sneak off while it was still dark to set up my easel and paint. They would wake up and my mom would happily make them breakfast and hang out with them (probably let them watch tv) until I came home in the middle of the morning. My husband would take advantage and get some extra sleep. I would have the beauty of Hilton Head to pick and choose from to paint. Last weekend, I took my easel out and set up at the NC Museum of Art park to paint. It was a beautiful day! I got out a little late, so it was a little hot and also a little bright, but I enjoyed my time painting Collapse I. I have to admit that I am going through a little mystery illness as of late… I seem to have developed an allergy that makes me have angioedema (if you’re brave, look it up.) So, going out of the house over the last two months has been tough. I don’t know what is causing this yet, and when it comes on, I have gotten steroids and it will subside within about a week to 10 days. So, there are no adorable photos of me with my easel and frankly I was very happy that I didn’t have any lookie-loues although I would normally be fine with the interaction. I am looking forward to figuring it out, but for now, I am keeping a somewhat low profile.

So, that was my first outing. This weekend, I planned to paint today! But it is raining and looks like it will be again, tomorrow (Sunday) so I am not sure when I will get out for the second installment, but I might have to paint twice next week!
