artist statement

I create contemporary realist artwork in oils on canvas. In my work, I explore the relationship between looser strokes and areas of detail or clarity as a representation of focus and movement. This is a reflection of my study of the fagility of life and represents fleeting moments.

I am greatly inspired by photography, especially blurry photos. I am also inspired by very old photographs and the way they capture time.
Currently I am working on a year long project in which I create paintings in grouping of a theme. Each series has 21 paintings and then I go on to a new theme for the next series. This allows me to explore the overarching themes within a limited context. |
